Set against a breathtaking backdrop of the snow-capped Cascade Mountains, the charming Bavarian-style village of Leavenworth, Washington, transforms into a sparkling “Village of Lights” each winter. The day after Thanksgiving through Feb. 28, more than half a million lights twinkle throughout the streets.
Home to the Nutcracker Museum, displaying over 9,000 nutcrackers crafted in more than 50 countries, Leavenworth has a jam-packed calendar of holiday fun for the whole family, including your furry friends: live music, strolling carolers, a gingerbread house exhibition and, of course, photos with that most famous duo, Mr. and Mrs. Claus.
Hotel Leavenworth
Located in the heart of the village, this historic hotel is one of many pet-friendly lodging options. They allow up to two dogs per room, any breed and size, for a $20 fee per dog per night. Traveling with a cat? Feline friends can stay at the nearby Blue Elk Inn for a $20 fee per night.
Doghaus Brewery
This basement speakeasy welcomes beer lovers and dog lovers alike—if you can find it. (Hint: Look for a sidewalk sign near the LOGE hotel on 9th Street.) Pin a bill to their “Dollars 4 Doggos” wall in the tasting room—the staff donates the contributions. In 2023, a collection of $2,412 was gifted to the Wenatchee Valley Humane Society. On Front Street, “friendly and leashed” dogs are also welcome on Icicle Brewing Company’s patio.
