The official TAFA hotel
The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) makes every effort to keep participant expenses at Taking Action for Animals (registration fees and hotel accommodations) as low as possible. We work hard to negotiate the best hotel rates and to make the best use of your registration dollars to keep TAFA affordable. We encourage all participants to reserve a room with the official TAFA hotel. When anyone pays the registration fee and reserves a room with the official TAFA hotel, they are helping to support TAFA 2024 and future conferences.
The hotel booking link is the only approved method to reserve a room in the official Taking Action for Animals block. The HSUS is not working with a housing agency for TAFA 2024. Beware of any unsolicited information from housing agencies misrepresenting that they are reserving rooms on behalf of the HSUS or Taking Action for Animals.
Special notice
Companies have been known to solicit our participants and exhibitors with offers of lower rates or nonexistent inventory of hotel rooms. Often referred to as "housing pirates" or "housing bandits," they will phone or email participants and exhibitors of events such as Taking Action for Animals. It is important to remember these companies are falsely claiming to be affiliated with Taking Action for Animals or HSUS. To protect yourself against these scams, book only using this housing link. Please report any suspicious solicitations, including phone number, email address or web link to us via email.
Transportation
Crystal City is a sprawling urban neighborhood south of downtown Washington, D.C. and only a few metro stops from Capitol Hill. The Crystal Gateway Marriott is located just two miles from Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA). A free airport shuttle to the hotel is available from 5 a.m. to midnight (last hotel departure at 11:30 p.m.) seven days per week. The shuttle runs about every 30 minutes. Pre-booking of the shuttle is not required.
Washington, D.C. is also accessible via the Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD), about 27 miles from the hotel, and Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI), about 37 miles from the hotel. Attendees who fly into IAD or BWI will be responsible for their own transportation to/from the conference hotel.
Train/Metro
The conference hotel is just across the street from the Crystal City metro stop, which services both the blue and yellow lines. It is also just a nine-minute walk from the Virginia Railway Express Crystal City Station or a 25 minute taxi ride from Union Station in D.C., which services Amtrak, Marc and Virginia Railway Express trains, as well as the D.C. metro red line and several local bus lines.
