The purpose of the grant is to support education research and increase diversity within the animal welfare movement by increasing the presentation and presence of racial and ethnic minorities, women, men, LGBTQ+ people, people with disabilities, people of marginalized socioeconomic status and other underrepresented groups at all levels of the animal welfare movement. 

For applicants local to the DC area, the grant will include funding for TAFA full conference registration. 

For those traveling to DC for the conference, the grant will include funding for:

  • TAFA full conference registration.
  • Two nights hotel stay at the Crystal Gateway Marriott (three nights will be covered for those who plan to stay for Humane Lobby Day).
  • Airfare to/from Washington, DC.

The application deadline if you require a hotel stay/airfare has been extended to Monday, July 1. If you are local to the DC area and do not need a hotel stay or airfare, we will be accepting applications until Friday, July 12.

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis but all applicants will be notified of their grant request status within two weeks of your application being submitted. Recipients must sign a grant agreement. Accepted applicants will be provided with instructions for booking travel in their acceptance emails.
