Gail Thomssen has been with the Humane Society of the United States since 2018 and brings experience in public, private and nonprofit sectors to her role as North Carolina state director. She has taught public school, worked as a military contractor overseas and in the corporate headquarters at Bank of America. Her trajectory in life changed when she adopted a beagle who spent four years living as a test subject in a research lab; she made a bold career change and began raising public awareness around animal testing, advocating for beagles and other animals used in research. Since then, she has served as an ambassador for countless other animals, partnered with law enforcement agencies and supported animals and their families in our state.
